چکیده

Introduction Cryptosporidium is a genus of Apicomplexa phylum parasites that can cause a respiratory and gastrointestinal illness (cryptosporidiosis) that primarily involves watery diarrhea (intestinal cryptosporidiosis) with or without a persistent cough (respiratory cryptosporidiosis) in both immunocompetent and immunodeficient humans (1-3). A number of Cryptosporidium species infect mammals (1,4). Recently, this protozoan has caused several waterborne outbreaks of diarrhea (5-7). C. parvum has a wide host range and infected animals can be sources of contamination for food and water supplies (7,8). There are many different methods for isolation of C. parvum oocyst and it is important to use rapid technique for producing highly purified C. parvum oocysts (9,10). In the present study different methods were examined and evaluated and then a suitable method for preparation and isolation of C. parvum oocysts from infected feces was defined.

Isolation of Small Number of Cryptosporidium parvum Oocyst Using Immunochromatography

BACKGROUND Cryptosporidium parvum causes severe gastroenteritis in immunocompromised human and new borne animals. The organism can be transmitted through water. Since small number of C. parvum is infectious, the aim of the present study was to develop a chromatography method for the isolation of C. parvum oocyst in samples with limited number of oocysts. METHODS Antibody was prepared against ...

Concurrent response to challenge infection with Cryptosporidium parvum in immunosuppressed C57BL/6N mice

We investigated the response to challenge infection with Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts in immunosuppressed C57BL/6N mice. In the primary infection, fecal oocyst shedding and parasite colonization were greater in immunosuppressed mice than in nonimmunosuppressed mice. Compared with primary infection, challenge infection with C. parvum didn't show any oocyst shedding and parasite colonization. E...

Detection of Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts in bovine feces by monoclonal antibody capture enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.

A monoclonal antibody enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was developed to detect Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts in bovine feces. Fecal oocysts were concentrated by centrifugation through Formalin-ethyl acetate solution and captured with monoclonal antibody 18.280.2 reactive with C. parvum oocysts. Captured oocysts were detected with goat anti-oocyst serum, following the addition of a per...

Mechanical transport and transmission of Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts by wild filth flies.

Over the course of six months wild filth flies were collected from traps left for 7-10 days in a barn with or without a calf shedding Cryptosporidium parvum Genotype 2 oocysts in diarrheic feces. The oocysts of C. parvum transported on the flies' exoskeletons and eluted from their droplets left on visited surfaces were infectious for mice. The mean number of oocysts carried by a fly varied from...

Bartonella henselae in African Lion, South Africa

Emerging Infectious Diseases • www.cdc.gov/eid • Vol. 10, No. 12, December 2004 2257 species can cause disease (symptomatic infection) and death. C. felis and C. meleagridis infections showed low oocyst shedding (all seven patients had low to moderate oocyst loads in samples). On the contrary, C. parvum produced similar clinical manifestations but showed higher oocyst shedding; 46% had high to ...
